If it’s free, it’s for me!
If I gotta pay, I stay away 😂
Happy November my nifty ‘n thrifty friends 🤑
🚨 BIG NEWS!!!
Mind Your Money is now available as an audiobook so you can take it with you on your next hot girl walk or road trip! (Cardi B voice "Eowww!") The best part is… it’s narrated by ME 🙋🏽♀️
As spooky 👻 season ends, November brings me memories of cozy PJs and my mom’s Dominican oregano seasoned turkey 🦃 My favorite thing about this time of year is getting together with my big and boisterous family!
Sadly, many people are anxious about money during this season. Consider booking me if you (or a friend) would benefit from one-on-one financial coaching. Here’s a HELPFUL HOLIDAY discount of 20% off the usual price ($257) from 11/1 - 12/31 for newsletter readers only 😎
November 28th is Giving Tuesday 🫶🏻
You know I’m all about saving my coins, but I’m also passionate about giving back in meaningful ways. This year, I invite you to think about causes that are most important to you. I’m personally donating to: Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, Save the Children, and Teach for America.
🔔 Reminder: You can donate copies of my book directly to schools and teachers on Donors Choose! If you’re a teacher, you can create a post of your own and/or reach out to local businesses that might cover the cost of a class set of books as a holiday gift.
You GOTTA Talk to Your Family About Money 💸 (Yup, I said it.)
Talking about money with family can be really challenging, especially when you feel pressure to spend money on gifts and holiday activities. All this stuff adds up real quick!
✋🏾 Set your boundaries! It’s ok to say “no” and be real with your loved ones about what you can and cannot prioritize financially in the coming weeks. If they’re real ones, they’re gonna love and support you regardless.
In my book, I share how I started my debt payoff journey while teaching. Back then, I was on the struggle bus HARD! After a long day with 30+ rambunctious eight-year-olds and night classes for grad school, all I wanted to do was decompress with a glass of wine! I wasn’t in the mood to budget or save, let alone talk about budgeting and saving with my fam!
Looking back, I’m SO glad I was honest with the people I love the most because they totally understood why I wasn’t ballin’ outta control during the holidays (like they’d seen me do many times before I got my money right).
IF IT’S FREE, IT’S FOR ME!!! 💸
When it comes to cutting back on spending during the holidays, my favorite trick is to take advantage of all the free activities available.
🎨 If your local museum offers free programming like First Fridays, get into it
🥾 Walking or hiking helps you connect with nature and move that body-ody-ody-ody
🧠Host a trivia night with your bffs or fam at someone’s home (you can even make it virtual if you can’t travel during the holidays!)
✂️ Get crafty! Make gifts for your friends and family! I learned how to sew and made each of my sisters and nieces purses one year. You could decorate sweaters, design t-shirts, or make bracelets - just have fun with it!
